i found this pic online and am interested in buying it, as i have an older (1972) evinrude without the tilt tube steering. my question is , how does this mount and hold the cable still? if anybody could tell me, that would be a great blessing, as i cannot use my boat as it is. thanks pic of steering

Mike, That looks like it bolts on to the motor or spashwell, and replaces the tilt tube. There is another way. There are clamps that accept the steering cable end and then bolt to the splash well. These clamps have a ball joint to allow them to pivot when the motor is trimmed or tilted. They are availible at West Marine and other discount houses.

Chris has it. It is a transom mounted tilt tube.
