Steering added with CMC Transom Mount - Question

Hi,

I'm ready now to add remote steering to my boat. It was in the shop getting a new power pack, carb rebuild, etc. on my 1985 Johnson 25hp. Only $214 for all including labor - not bad!

Anyways, I asked the guy there about adding remote steering at the motor end and he said with the motor set back 5 inches and raised some, the aluminum transom mount would get it the way of the steering cable. Also, because the cable would be mounted on the inside of the transom, the cable would be too far in front of the motor. You can see the pic below.

I asked if we could add a metal plate on the front of the motor where the cable hooks to and extend it foward some. He said that may work. I took a pic from the side the cable would come in from. I drew where I would add a plate on the front of the motor. Do you think that would work? Also, I may need to raise where the transom mount is mounted to hold the support tube.

Do you think this should work? Thanks!

bolt a plate to the outside of the transom, or put a off set bend in it, high enough for the transom mount and connect directly to the motor. extending the front of the motor is going to reduce turning radius.
