I have an old (1992 Lowe) pontoon that I need to replace the upholstered padding on the steering console. To get to the upholstered padding, I need to remove the steering wheel and bezel. Therein lies the problem. I can't figure out how to remove the steering wheel shaft. I've removed the steering wheel and the center nut on the steering column. Loosened the two screws holding the bezel in place. The shaft won't move either up or down. Doesn't matter though as for lack of a better term, a woodruff key is welded to the shaft (see picture attached) and sets proud of the shaft, instead of in a slot (IMHO where a woodruff key usually goes). The purpose of this is so that the steering wheel can slide down on to the shaft in one of three slots notched in to the steering wheel itself. Also tried from the back of the teleflex steering and can't remove that either. Any ideas on how to do this?
