I have a 1969 Johnson 85 Hp outboard mounted on a 17' Doral with rack and pinion steering. The cable has the threaded collar on the end with a place to either use a bolt or a clevis pin to secure the cable end to the motor. My problem is the motor has a flat bar coming from under the power head towards the front of the boat with a hole in it.
It had a bracket whioch was apparently used for cable type steering previously. I'm somewhat familiar with the types of apparatus used to connect the cable to the motor.
In my case what is used to attach the cable of the rack and pionion unit to either the mount of the motor or some other place on the transom to make the steering functional and, economically I might add.
I have viewed several products here on I-boats but am unsure what I need to complete the connection.
