In the process of going through and cleaning up all the pieces on my 1980 V4 I took the nut off the steering arm assembly so I cold remove, de-scale and re-paint.

Well - oops!

The nut came off with all the threads still attached. It's also seized into the lower mount bracket. I've got it soaking in PB blaster, and I'll put it in the press tonight in hopes of popping it loose w/o cracking the mount bracket.

Anyway, it looks like I may be in the market for P# 0387222 Steering Arm Assembly (and maybe 0322860 Mount Bracket) Where the heck would a person go looking for those? I don't think I've ever seen anything like that on ebay.

Uff da! Not good.Steering arm assy. Part [BRP-0387222] has been superseded with item [BRP-0392518]. It's available, new at ishopmarine.com, but you aren't going to like the price at $532.24.

Lower bracket BRP-0322860 is also available as a vintage part, special order at ishopmarine.com for $152.82.

Get in touch with the folks at tcoutboard.com. They'll have a used set for you, but it'll still be expensive, since they know the new price.

Or...watch Craigs List and buy a busted outboard that has the parts. There are a bunch of those V4s out there. I don't know how much of a model range the parts match, but I'm betting it's more than a few. brp.com will probably help you figure it out.

Re: Steering arm assembly.

I've rarely found ishopmarine's prices for pieces like that to match what I can get them locally for (i.e. reality). I found a new set for about $250. I'm still hoping to come across a better deal from a salvage yard.

I was really just checking to see availability there. I'm sure you'll find one used, in good condition for much less.

Re: Steering arm assembly.

I'm crossing my fingers for sure. I found a 150hp here on craigslist that someone is parting out. I'm not sure what year it is, but checking the 1990 the parts match.

Here's hoping.

Edit: Darn! XL shaft and no match.

Edit part deux: Well 8 tons of press cracked the bottom mount. Fortunately I found a donor '84 midsection w/ working T&T for $150. So, I'll strip off what I need and e-bay the T&T unit when I'm done. Hopefully, it'll be a wash.
