Steering cable bravo

The boat is 2004 bravo 3 350 mag and the steering is impossible to steer with the engine on or off its just as hard to steer. Removed the steering cable from the accuator and it still tough to steer. After removing the steering cable one of my questions is where do you mesure the cable for the correct length and since at one time this boat sunk I wonder if the accuator should be replaced also. Im thinking I dont want to take a chance. Please help this is something that has to be done soon for a big trip thats planned. Any help would be a big asving grace at this point. Thank you very much

You probably have a corrosion issue between the steering cable end and the aluminum tube the cable end goes through in the power steering cylinder.
Just remove the cable and clean and lube the cable end and it should work fine.

Thanks I think you could be right or you just flat are right but the guy that owns the boat wants to change both so how do you measure the cable and if he wants to change both Im not going to argue with him. Thanks for your help and responding so quick

The cable length is usually stamped on the drive end of the cable sheath within a foot or so of the end.
Remove the cable from the drive and turn it so you can read it.
PS, if you can't get it out, that may be why he can't turn it.

With the cable out of the acctuator the steering wheel is just as stiff to turn. Icannot find any numbers on the cable anywhere. With the cable all the way in where would you measure it? From the middle of the rack or the end of the rack where the cable goes in. You have been very helpful and I really thank you

Ayuh,.... With the cable in the Middle of in/ out,...
Measure from the End of the cable to the Center of the Helm....
