I am wondering if there is a trick to get the slotted thing off the end of a steering cable?

After the grooved bar that goes on the steering wheel end is a nut. I removed the nut and there is a keyed piece rounded and flat on both ends. If anyone knows what it is called and where to buy one I can grind it off.

Or a way to remove the one that is on there without damaging it. The problem is I don't have anything to hold on to to keep the whole cable from spinning when I try to loosen that piece.

My goal is to pull the core out and clean the tube and cable.

Thank you in advance.

Re: steering cable help

Many people have to un-bolt the outboard to get the cable out. The outboard must be slid over to one side of the transom.

Ayuh,.... The cable itself is a non-serviceable part,... Throw it Away, 'n replace it.... It's Junk...

Thank you, I was afraid of that. I was trying to be cheap and save $100

Also Bob, I noticed the VT Strong Image, then noticed you're from W. Rutland, I am too!
