Steering Cable Issue

1993 Bayliner Classic 19' cuddie with a 3.0L Mercruiser 4 cylinder and an Alpha 1 gen 2 outdrive. Manual rack and pinion Steering.

My steering cable is shot. I disconnected the cable from the gimbal housing and the drive moves freely, turning the steering wheel will give you 24" biceps! I tried soaking the steering rod/shaft with PB Blaster for days with no luck.

I'm looking for any tips or tricks to replace the cable. If there is anyone out there with this exact boat, please let me know the part number for the cable.

Thank you in advance...

Re: Steering Cable Issue

I would think that any Bayliner dealer would have that number for you. Possibly an aftermarket item as well. Have you checked out the iboat store?

Re: Steering Cable Issue

gcboat,
Thanks for the reply. I'm going to tackle this cable this weekend. Once I have it out, I will know all of the specifics and commence my internet research for the best price.
Thanks...
