Hello all, Just removed old Teleflex Rack & Pinion steering system. How do I measure for replacement? The stamp on the cable is 15ft but the new kits come 14ft or 16ft. It goes on a 18ft Bayliner Capri with pivot tube. Thanks

Re: steering cable measurement

Look at www.telflex.com for telephone number or part number. 15 ft cable kits are in the catalog I have.

I don't know what sort of boat you have, but measure it, don't go by what was in it.. (although thats not really a problem)

you might be fine with the 14...

Measure from the center of the steering wheel to the side of the boat... then measure from the side of the boat up to the back of the boat where the cable goes into the splashwell, then measure the distance from there to the center of the splashwell..

Add them all together, and add two feet for plumbing room...

That should get you close..

that was how I was told to do it, and it worked for me perfectly..

I got a teleflex rotary steering unit..
250 AUD and fit in really easily.

rgds

Franki
