steering cable removal?

The stering cable has broken inside of the case? I was able to remove the steering cable from the helm and pulled the cable out of the casing. I am stuck back at the tilt tube!!!<br />How do I remove the stainless steel shaft attached to my cable from inside of the tilt tube? I can move it so far and then it wont slide out any further. If it comes out this hard how easy is it to slide a new one back in?

hello<br /> disconnect the drag link from the port side. remove the 1 1/8th may be 1 1/16th nut from stbd side. push cable from port side of tube to stbd side using plenty of lubricant. on some installations the cable cannot be removed with the engine mounted on the hull. depends on the angle of entry.<br /> good luck and keep posting.
