Steering cable replacement

I recently broke my steering cable, (which was only around 40-50 years old... nothing last these days), in my 16 foot tri-hull and am trying to replace it, I know the cable length that i need and I know that teleflex will definitely work on the motor end, however I am unsure about the steering wheel end and was wondering if anyone could help me on that. As of yet I have not been able to disconnect the cable from the steering wheel assem. but what I can tell you is that the cable goes into a metal pipe of which the steering wheel connects to the center of. It appears to me that non rack steering cable should work fine but with the assembly being so old and me not knowing the brand or model of it I am a bit worried it may not work. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
P.S. if this is in the wrong place then sorry but i didn't see a better spot for it, feel free to move it though.

Re: Steering cable replacement

With the steering system that old I would replace the helm and the cable. It would make life so much easier for you.

Shop around. You can get new cable and helm cheaper than just buying the cable.
