Re: Steering Cable

Do I need the one that was on this motor or will they mix and match?

Re: Steering Cable

There are three major steering system makes. Detmar, Morse, Teleflex. Each has their own cable. Look here for ideas of what to look for.

Re: Steering Cable

The steering cable on my 69 Triumph also broke about 2 years ago. It was a fairly easy fix. I used a Teleflex cable. All I needed was the length of the existing cable and the local boat store was able to replace it. If I remember correctly my cable was 12 feet long and costed about $130.00 new.
Just be sure to put the cable in the correct side of the helm (or steering gear) or else your steering will be backwards. Don't ask how I know that!

Re: Steering Cable

look on the black sheath there is a number, that's the replacement number. of course we are assuming you are not using the old cable pulley steering.
