I need some help. I've got a 1972 Thunderbird boat with an Evinrude motor. The boat has been sitting for about 4 years. When me and my husband were cleaning it up a bit, we sort of wiggled the steering cable and it was just completely knocked loose and broke. It was old and had been rusted and frozen. So we need a new cable.
Can you please tell me what to even look for? The steering wheel is alright, I think it's just the cable.
Any help for the girl who knows nothing about boats- greatly appreciated!!!

Re: Steering cable

to be honest, you are going to be better off putting a complete system in. teleflex no feed back (NFB) rotary system will go good. clik boat steering at the top of this page.

Okay, I found a Teleflex no feed back 18' with helm, bezel and cable. I have a 15' boat. Should I find a 15'? Or is a little slack okay?
Is is what I'm looking for?

Re: Steering cable

It is vital that you get the correct length. Too long will cause you to put in extra bends which will make it very hard to steer. Too short...well that's obvious, it won't reach.
