Re: steering cable

Spinner bait nut, I've heard a few people that remove cable and stand upright from ladder and pour motor oil down tube and then work cable to and fro and loosen them up .If not successful at least it's removed for replacement.

Re: steering cable

Agree with mellow , new is the way to go but if $ is tight...do what ob suggested except get a funnel that fits over the outer housing closely , then tape the funnel tightly to the housing. This gives you a reservour(sp?) that you put penetrating oil in,let drain overnight, work the cable in & out alot, then follow with 5-10W motor oil fill and overnight drain. It'll work smooth, then remember to grease it through the zirk often(especially after salt use)

Re: steering cable

Trust them when they tell you get a new cable, I will never try to loosen up a very tight cable again it left me stranded few miles off shore and i had to idle it back to the docks with me sitting on the transom steering the outboard by hand , let me tell you my back was killing me and it was no fun trying to dock it..
