Steering cable

I am working on a 1990 Cajun fish and ski zw174. I basically have been inside and out of this boat. I have redone carpet wood abs much more. It’s never ending lol. So I measured for a new steering cable and added 6 inch I got 14.6 so I ordered a 15 foot cable. So when preparing the old for removal. I noticed it says 13.5.. with that being said if I can enough space for the 15 foot cable can I use it or should I go with a shorter one? This boat is like they cramped as much as possible and used every space possible. But I think I can make it work. Just want other’s opinions. Thank yall

If it fits it will work.
The cable could wrap around the boat, and if it connects it will work

Problem will be if its to long and unable to connect

Only problem with a cable is NO kinks. All sweeping turns. If you have to force the turn the radius is too short. Result is kink in center conductor and once kinked, forget it. Yes if too long you can make an S out of the cable to take up the extra length, but sweeping S.......If too short, tough luck.

If your present (old) cable was 13.5' long and you bought a 15' long replacement, you could have a problem. Unless you can somehow take up the length somewhere when installing it, you could have issues getting it to install properly. Steering cables are not that flexible and that is why they want you to precisely measure before buying. A couple inches is not a worry. But a foot and half can be. If you haven't received the new cable yet, you could call the company and explain to them what you have and see what they say. Otherwise, you may be ordering a shorter cable as well. JMHO
