HI
I just took apart my console to check why the steering is so stiff. The unit is totally enclosed and was wondering if anyone has any experience on this type of control and could tell me if I should dare to open this up and maybe Re-Lub.

Re: steering control stiff

Jeepster,
In my experience hard steering in your type of unit is usually due to moisture getting into the cable tubing at the motor mount end. Generally, rust develops around the cable, and steering becomes tight. If you can remove the cable at the motor mount end, and steer the cable out so as to inspect it, you may be able to lubricate the end and get some oil into the sleeve to loosen the friction caused by rusting. Give this a try, it may solve your problem.

Good luck, be safe, have fun.
