Now, this is going to sound really silly to all you experienced people here, but as a newbie, I have decided to look into buying an aluminium boat and repaint it. I would like steering remotes if possible, but I have no idea as to how to fit them! Also would I be able to get a set for less than £100GBP? I have got NO idea whatsoever how they work, even if you can fir them yourself! If it is an expensive and complicated job, I could live with tiller steering but that's not ideal is it?
Thanks,
Anglersam

Re: Steering Controls

Anglersam, I had to refit the steering on my aluminum boat with a motor change. It wasn't a major rework but enough that I looked over the whole system. My sense from that is that it is pretty straightforward dealing with a small steering system. Just a matter of mounting the wheel, routing the hydraulic cables, mounting the steering arm and bolting it on to the motor.

Obviously depending on what is in your boat you may have to fabricate a dash to mount the wheel on but you'll know how and where to put it from your boat.

The last step, attaching to the motor, is where there will be a few variables depending on the motor. For example on my setup I went from a a custom fabricated aluminum bracket to a single bolt, so it actually ended up simpler. Good luck.

Re: Steering Controls

Yeah it can be done but why not buy one with everything on it?
