I have a 2003 5 HP Mercury (4 cycle) mounted on my Catalina 22 sailboat. Traditionally you lock the steering and steer a sailboat with the tiller. I am unable to lock the motor's steering adjustment mechanism. I tighten the wing nut but after a few seconds the motor turns about 10 degrees to port and I have to compensate with the saiboat's tiller. Any suggestions, I hope to avoid a jury-rigged solution.
