I have a 1973 65hp johnson. Was out on river today and hit a rock. Motor did not kick back like it should have...I don't think. Steering became hard but I was able to get back to dock. Noticed that the bar from the motor to the cable was bent. At home I removed the bar and straightened it. When i put it back on I could not move the steering wheel at all. I removed the bar again and noticed that the cable was frozen. Any suggestions? Oh..I also greased up the cable via the fittings before I took the boat out. Thanks for your help.

Re: steering froze

Do a search in this forum for "steering froze". There is a lot of good advice in here since this has happened to many people already.

Most likely it is either the cable or the helm and you need to find out which it is. You will want to find out what kind of helm you have, whether it be rack and pinion or rotary.
