was having a hard time docking, moving the steering wheel back and forth, and lost the steering. something must have disconnected(the cable?). i think it might be at the motor end but not sure. it's an old boat so it's not a fancy system. any ideas how much to repair or should i replace the whole steeering system? thanks

suggest a little more trouble shooting. could just be a nut and bolt.

Re: Steering Gone

where do i check to see where it is disconnected? i'd sure like to avoid going to the repair shop if possible and would like to get back on the water asap.
thanks again

Re: Steering Gone

Your steering system should be one of the most insanely easy things to troubleshoot on your boat. Most of the business end will be under your dog house, generally above and behind the engine. Stick someone in the driver's seat while you look under there, and have them turn the wheel back and forth. You'll probably see what's wrong.

Or, you could pay a marine mechanic $93 to do the exact same exercise, of course.

Re: Steering Gone

ok, i checked both the back connection and the front and it seems the cable is connected. if i turn the wheel all the way the motor moves a little in one direction but doesn't move back when i turn it the other way. does it sound like a new cable? can i replace the cable only without a new system? it's weird. thanks as always
