Steering froze up on my 17? runabout. I was able to free the steering by pushing the motor back to the left. After I tried to force it at the wheel (stupid I know). Now my steering is sloppy and feels like it wants to bind when turning right. It has a Teleflex single helm SH5023 system which is definitely damaged. I plan on replacing the unit but, question is how do I get the cable through the unit? I think the cable is ok just needs some major greasing at the motor. Anyone familiar with replacing these things?

Re: Steering help

Decided replacing steering unit and cable sounded like a good idea. Guess I should have asked how hard this job was going to be. Trying to get the old cable out I had to tap on the end to get to go through the motor. It looks like there?s a sleeve coming out the other side. Is this normal? I don?t think I have enough room to get the old cable off without dismounting the motor. Worried I may have damaged something here. I've attached a few pic's of the situation. PLEASE HELP!!!

Re: Steering help

You almost always have to remove the motor.
