to all,
I purchased a 1980 hydra sport 18ft bass boat and the dealer in Alabama put a rebuilt 1973 Johnson 115 on it. Controls and steerting cable came out of a run about.
Went to hook it up, and found 2 problems.
1. The cable is to long by 2 feet.
2. There is no way to keep the cable secured via a jam nut on the steering bar that bolts to the outboard. Plus there is no securing devises on the back of the boat.

I have seen some universal kits to change out, but that's just more $$$$.

Any idas on how to fix these two problems.

open to advise.

Thanks,
WABASH

post a pic and it will be easier. Cable too long it not a problem. it should run down the boat to the back. You can take up the slack if you don't want it seen, by pulling it back and letting it sag. Don't bend it though just let it sag. if you had a real long cable a very gentle loop would work. I am not sure what system you have to tell you how to secure it though.

if i remember correctly, the 73 does not have the tilt tube. so you need a transom mount kit. go to teleflex.com marine, steering, instructions. all the info is there.
