Hello all!
I have a 1992 Johnson 225-V6 "Looper".
I have noticed the steering member that is a forged piece of steel that looks to be an integral part of the main pivot assembly has a substancial amount of rust and rot in the middle portion of the arm. It seems to have aprox 1/4" of thickness left from aprox. 3/8"-1/2" original thickness. Question is: Is there a recomended minimum thickness to this component? Is this dangerous as it is presently? What would be a ballpark estimate to replace this arm? Why is this the only location that has rust on the entire engine? BTW- It is used in salt water off Montauk point NY 5 months a year.

Thanks in Advance.
