I have a 1972 22 ft Fiberform with a flying bridge. The steering in the cockpit is fine. But none in the flying bridge. Turn the wheel and nothing. It's as pictured behind the dash. I've enclosed a pic of the pump and resovoir behind the dash. Should I fill the resovoir with oil (type of oil?) and work the wheel? Anything else I can try? Thanks.

I use automatic transmission fluid in my Wagner hydraulic steering system. If the flybridge steering reservoir is empty you may need to bleed the system after filling to get rid of any air in the lines. Seems weird to have no steering at all from up top, hopefully the pump hasn't failed. Good luck.

Thanks about the ATF wasn't sure. Ya I'm just getting into this so not sure about how much oil is in it. The boat has sat for years. If it's down it must have be leaked somewhere.

The reservoir has a tiny hole in the cap. As I filled it gurgled and burped air to the top of the reservoir and out. Turned the wheel a few times and the steering worked. Very happy about steering wheel pump being ok.
