my hyd steering seems to be locked it turned to the right (moter down not running) went to turn to the left and wheel turned free moter did not move. The moter is a 1986 evendrude 175 on a jack plate.I did greas all the fittings before trying the steering. This is a new used boat that I have not had in the water yet. Any thoughts??? Thanks

Re: steering issues

First check the hydraulic fluid if you haven't already done so. Next you need to determine if the problem is with the hydraulic system or the motor. Disconnect the steering arm on the motor from the hydraulic piston. If the motor turns freely you have a problem on the hydraulic side. If the motor does not turn the problem is with the motor side. In either case you will need to do some additional troubleshooting. If the problem is with the hydraulic side go to Google & see if you can find the manufacturer's web site. You may find troubleshooting procedures and detail diagrams (use the model # if you can find it).
