OK,it looks like i screwed up. Out on the lake today when steering to starboard locked up. forced steering and heard a snap. Only steers one way. pulled boat out found gimbal pin out and pushed back in. apparently jammed the steering and snapped something. where do i start? Remove cable at transom or rack? Why would pin slide out?

1969 Aerocraft Caribbean with a 120 mercruiser. Directional indicator steering (rack). Any suggestions on where to start would be appreciated

Ayuh,.... Donno which "Pin" yer talkin' 'bout,...
But,....
Disconnect the cable at the transom, 'n see if the rack, 'n cable still works,...
If not,...
Replace it as a whole Kit, cable, 'n helm,...

Re: steering problem

sounds to me like he means the gimbal upper swivel pin.... if so, it's time to pull the engine and transom assembly

Re: steering problem

The gimbal ring to bell housing hinge pin #17-77361A-1 slid out and jammed against the transom plate. Just removed the pin by threading a1/4-28 bolt in it and pulled it out. Looks like the roll pin that holds it in place snapped and I broke something in the steering system when I forced a turn.
Rain stopped. Disconnected cable at transom. Works only one way. Looks like I will have to remove rack and inspect. Old manual not clear and can not find on internet. can anyone point me in the right direction?
Maybe a link removal procedure? Thanks
