I have a 91 115hp yamaha v4 that has loose steering. Is there a tension adjust on the motor? when I am using my kicker the main engine will move when I'm turning right with the kicker... meaning the wheel will play out cable but the wheel doesnt allow the engine to push the cable back in when I want to go straight ..... Is it time for a new steering system?

Also, i have the trim tab adjusted so the wheel doesnt pull when I'm on plane, but when I am in low speed (trolling speed) the wheel wants to turn to the right. I have to always hold on to the wheel.

these things related? any suggestions?

Re: steering problems

some helms have a friction adjustment and some do not.
the engine has no steering friction adjustment.
you may either have to find a helm with a friction adjustment or buy a no feedback type helm.
or use a bungee cord to lock the helm in the desired position when trolling.
