Any infor will help, How does it work, is there somehting I can lube or replace to get it to stear easier. it is extreamly difucult to turn and especially dock in its current state.

Disconnect from the engine and verify what Bondo said. '81 to '12, sounds like you got your money's worth from your steering system. Teleflex-Morse makes them and the no feedback are the best. No feedback pretty much keeps the engine from determining where the wheel goes when you release the wheel....hence no feedback. Rotary or rack and pinion are available. I've had both. My current is a rack and pinion and no feedback. Don't know if rotary has no feedback or not. Space available usually dictates which style you use. I had to replace mine a couple of years ago on a '00 boat and it really made a difference....took both hands to turn steering wheel.
