Steering question??

I am not sure of the model of steering I have, but i think it is like the Teleflex Safety "T". It has a single center flex that looks like a very heavy heavy spring (spiral shape) that feeds inside the sheathing. When the wheel is turned the motor attachment end moves out or retracts.

Is there any way to get the center cable out to clean and relube?? The steering is very stiff and the grease that is on the end is fairly solid, more like wax.

Any advice????

Re: Steering question??

I checked into this a few years ago for my previous boat. I was told that the cable is pre-lubricated from the factory and the only periodic lubrication needed was at my outboard tilt tube. If this doesn't solve the problem you are ready for a replacement. You can call Teleflex customer service at 610-495-7011.

Re: Steering question??

Thanks for the advice. It looks like I will be getting a new steering cable. Just wanted to make sure that some maintenance on the cable would take care of problem.
