Steering Question???

I HAVE A 20" FOOT PROLINE BOAT, 75HP OB MERC. WILL THE STEERING OPERATE WITHOUT THE MOTOR RUNNING?? I WAS JUST IN THE BOAT, ON THE TRLR, AND TURNED THE WHEEL..... THE MTR WD NOT TURN.. DOES IT HAVE TO BE RUNNING??

Yo Mike, what kind of steering do you have. What is hooked up to, where, what & by what means ?

A rotary system doesn't need power. Some one else can speak about hydraulic systems, I've never had one.

(mike, don't post in all caps, it's like you are shouting instead of asking).

Sounds like you just bought the boat. Unless you have a frozen steering cable, the motor should turn easily. Also, you should be able to move the engine by hand

motor does not have to be running. disconnect at motor and see which is at fault. motor or cable.

thanks... i did as suggested and wd-40 it all... broke loose and seems fine... thanks!
