Steering Replacement Question

I just bought a 1989 Stratos 285 PF bass boat with a 1989 Evinrude 150 HP V-6, and I'm having some problems with the steering. I'm thinking that I need to replace the steering cables, which is a Teleflex Rack & Pinion. My question is I have a dual cable system, and there are two pieces that connect to the steering wheel, and 2 cables that connect to the engine, but all the replacements I am seeing are single cable. Can I switch it to a single cable system? I see how it would be mounted under the console with no problem, but what about the other end of the cables where they attach to the engine? Can that connection be switched to a single cable kit as well?

Re: Steering Replacement Question

Single cable thru the tilt tube with a link connecting the steering arm of the motor with the cable. Piece of cake...why not go with Baystar/Seastar?;)

It's really that easy then? Ok, well hopefully this works out then. Right now the steering arm is connected to both cables. Do I need to buy any type of adapter to connect to the steering arm with one cable?

Re: Steering Replacement Question

Mat,
The cable passes thru the tilt tube. Secured by a large nut on the starboard side. Link arm attaches to the steering arm thru the second or third hole (it is an 89 afterall, current etecs have 3 holes) and the hole at the end of the cable.

Done.
