I just installed a new Teleflex Marine 13ft Boat Steering System 13213 Rotary on my boat, looks good, feels good, only thing is, the motor turns the wrong way, is there a way to reverse the steering in the helm. I don't think I could ever safely get use to it being backwards, some of you veterans HELP!!!

Generally speaking, you need to remove the cable from the helm and put it in the other hole.

well thats what i thought, but the holes are made different, the hole its in, has 2 bolts that lock it in place, the other hole, is just made for the plastic protective sleeve. is there a way to lock it in place if i switch holes?

where is the helm right, left or center console. when looking at the helm from the wheel the cable has to come out on the right, lower hole of the helm.

steering console is on the right side of the boat. entrance and exit holes are both on the right side of the helm. the cable locks in the bottom hole, it needs to be in the top hole, but, the top hole is not made to accept the cable.

Are you sure? Any that I ever saw are. It needs to come out the top hole whenever the helm is on the right and the steering cable enters the motor from the starboard / front, which is 99.99% of all boats today.

may teleflex rotary all come out the bottom when the helm is on the starboard side and enter the motor on starboard side.

Have you actually put the boat in the water and verified that it's backwards? Or are you turning the wheel to the right and the motor moves to the left? That's the way it should be -- turn wheel right, motor moves to the left. Move wheel to the left, motor moves to the right.

Remember, you're steering from the back, not the front like a car.

If you can't get it into the top hole, In theory then, if you were to turn the whole steering wheel unit upside down with out any cable in it, and the cable only goes in the top hole, then it would work for left side steering, maybe you picked up the wrong one, Left Hand -LH steering, instead of Right Hand -RH steering ???

True That! This could also be the case, give it a good think ;)

ok guys, I'm bald not blonde, lol. Ok. I turn the wheel to the right the prop goes to the left, thats backwards according to the 16 other boats I checked today. It should be wheel to the right, prop to the right. I'm going to try to put the cable in the other way alittle later after it cools off. 101 is a little hot to be screwin with it.

I think you have it backwards, that would put the prop pushing the oposite way your wanting to go.

When you turn the wheel for a right (starboard) turn the front of the outboard will move to the left (port) side of the boat. And vise versa.

This is assuming that the motor is mounted on the stern, not in a forward well like a gill net boat. It's also assuming the cable is entering in the starboard side of the tilt tube.

Again, have you actually had it in the water?

I just fixed mine today and it was cake. Take the two bolts out that lock in the tubes and roll the cable out by turning the wheen then feed it in through the other hole ...put the bolts in and you are done.

I have this same issue, the new Teleflex rotary system uses a Quick T connections one hole has a diaphram in it the other is a male thread. The only end the cable connects into is the diaphram. You start the cable in and turn the wheel until it clicks and its locked in place. The other end has no lock and the cable will slide out if you steer to far. This side is only designed for the dust cover. Ill try to attach a good photo. I need help i am baffled at how i can possibly install something so simple backwards.
