I have my Alpha 1 gen 1 transom unit off the boat. I was greasing the hinge points and noticed the gimball ring is very stiff. The steering shaft and arm have been previously replaced so there is no play in the shaft area. It is just very stiff when you move it side to side.
Thanks

Re: Steering Shaft Stiff

If the steering cable is still attached it will be hard to turn, if it has power steering, you probably can't turn it at all from the outside of the transom.

It is a bare assy. sitting on a bench, nothing connected to it. Its very hard to move.

Re: Steering Shaft Stiff

if you are trying to "steer" it by just moving the steering arm on the inner portion of the assy, yep its gonna be hard to do

if you grab the trim rams and move side to side, very easy to do

it is a matter of leverage
