Re: Steering system questions

We need an accurate description of what type engine and drive system you have. OMC, Volvo Penta, Mercruiser, or ? ? ? ? ? ? ? Just knowing it's what you believe is a 4 cyl sterndrive isn't any help.

Re: Steering system questions

It is a inline 4 cylinder mercruiser. The outdrive according to what I have found is called a 120/140.

Re: Steering system questions

Do you have a serial # or can you narrow the year model down?

The 120 came out in 1964 and ran thru 1989

The 140 came out in 1968

Re: Steering system questions

Your choice, just get the length correct and use either a rotary or drum system. Just unhook the tiller arm from the end of the cable and loosen the big nut, it will pull out of the tube. Nothing complicated. All systems use the same except for the old OMC True Course cable system.

Re: Steering system questions

It's usually a question of Space behind the Dash, as to whether to use a Rack, or Rotary,.......
It's not about which is Better......

The NFB system is available with Either the Rack or Rotary,....
It helps to take the Torque-Steer out of it....It'll be less apt to Swerve if you let go of the Wheel.....

Re: Steering system questions

I have plenty of room behind the dash. Is one better than the other. Sorry for the stupid questions.
