Have a 1970 fiberglass boat that I am in the process of "cleaning up". The existing steering system is a STEERMASTER II which is a tilt tube steering type (not pulley and cable type). Problem is the system is completely seized up.

Want to replace this with a new system but can't find any guides on how to choose the "right" system. Teleflex alone has many different models and styles.

I am looking for a basic, simple steering system for a 16ft F/G boat with an 80HP Merc outboard.

Any suggestion, or advise?

i highly recommend the teleflex safe t rotary system, much easier to install. you can also go No feed back, rotary.
