Need to replace the steering on my boat. Would like to know more about these No Feedback systems. I dont need a hydraulic steering setup. Is rotary and mechanicaly the same thing?

I also am interested in this Tilt wheel setup...however, I'm a bit confused on what kit I actually would want. According to iboats, each kit comes with the same items. I'm not sure which one is what I would need?

Re: Steering Systems

I am guessing but I would say "machanical" is a new name for rack and pinion.

I have a Teleflex tilt on mine and I love it, way better than the rack, nice and linear, almost like a car.

The hardest part is getting the steering wheel centered, you may need to feed it through a time or two to get it right.

The tilt part of it is a seprerate mechanism that fits on the steering box, as long as you get one that says tilt you are fine.

the nfb allows you to turn loose the wheel, and get no torque steer. it is really great if trolling with the main motor. as you can just let the motor idle, and the wheel will stay straight. the rotary system is very user friendly, and much easier to install.

Re: Steering Systems

TD,

Thanks for the reply. Im confused with what all comes with that tilt helm kit though. It looks to me, that it comes with everything minus a steering cable. Would I need to buy the complete steering assembly as well as this kit?

For the price, I would think I would just need the tilt kit, as it costs a little more than the complete steering assembly. But I'm not sure.

What is the difference between the Safe-T NFB and the 4.2 NFB systems?

Re: Steering Systems

you need this and the dash kit. tilt is expensive. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=244013

the difference is the 4.2 is 4.2 turns of the steering wheel from dead left to dead right. the standard is 3 turns, dead left to dead right. when docking i prefer 3 turns to 4 turns.
