I am trying to swap this fisher price looking steering wheel with a nice one I purchased. I cannot seem to get it off no matter what I try. I also can use too much force because the dash panel is old, fragile, and flexing.

Does anyone have any tips short of destroying the steering wheel? (Already “gave” it to a friend).

Soak the heck out of it with PB Blaster or your favorite solvent, let it soak for a while, put the nut back on loose but protecting the threads, wedge your knees under the bottom of the wheel, pull on the top of the wheel with one hand and smack the snot out of the nut with a BFD. Repeat as necessary.

If the dash breaks, it needed fixing for safety.

Get a bearing splitter to place under the wheel, then use a 3 jar puller

GA andAD have you covered.

last steering wheel I pulled without breaking had 4 ratchet straps going up to the garage rafters, each with about 300# of tension on it. beat the nut pretty bad to the point i needed to chase threads.

the wheel before came off with a die grinder and cut-off wheels....ended up replacing the helm.

Appreciate the advice fellas. Looks like I keep trying methods until I get it off. Work my way from lube and a hammer to angle grinder, haha.

Unfortunately, I’m already tonthe point I have to chase the threads with a die (whoops). So, I don’t mind getting a bit aggressive with it.

Put the nut back on but don't tighten it. Leave about one or two threads from bottoming out. Then put on a steering wheel puller or gear puller. Leave the nut on so you don't blow out the threaded shaft. BINGO

Ya leave the nut on so you don't eat the steering wheel when it flies off.
