I have seen advertised, devices (gadgets) that attach to the center of the steering wheel that tell which direction the outdrive is pointed.
Do these things work?
Uncle Dave

About the only time those are of much value is when you raise your outdrive. They can help you center it before you raise it.

They work about the same as a piece of tape, a zip tie, or a line drawn by a magic marker.

This is a little different to what you are describing but I'll press on anyway.

They are called 'rudder angle guages'. A waterproof potentiometer (sender) is attached to the outdrive. As the outdrive turns, the sender sends a signal to a gauge. The guage looks like a fuel guage, it reads - starboard, centre and port. I can't see my motor/leg from the helm so (for me) it is very helpful.

Aldo
