I have a 16ft. fishing boat ( Starcraft)with a 50hp mercury outboard and need to replace the steering system. It has a teleflex rack and pinion system. I can replace it with a standard back mount rack or a no feed back system. Is it worth it to upgrade to a NFB system? I don't mind the extra cost but if it doesn't change the performance why spend the money?

Re: steering

NFB systems help mask torque steer.

If your setup suffers from torque steer that you can't get rid of, then NFB is useful - especially if you're busy on the boat and sometimes run hands-off for any reason (never done of course, but we all do).

Otherwise, as you say, why spend the bucks?
