i HAVE A 89, 85 HORSE FORCE. tHIS MOTOR IS SO HARD TO DTEER. i'VE DISCONECTED THE CABLE TO SEE IF IT WAS THE CABLE BUT THE CABLE MOVES FINE. iT HAS TO BE THE MOTOR ITSELF. I'VE TRIED TO GREASE
THE STEERING ROD BUT IT DOESN'T WANT TO TAKE THE GREASE IT SEEMS LIKE THERE IS NO ROOM FOR THE GREASE OR IT ONLY TAKES ALITTLE. DOES ANYONE KNOW ANOTHER WAY TO FREE UP THE STEERING ROD

Re: STEERING

If cable is disconnected and the motor is still hard to turn, then look to the kingpin.
Penetrating oil, heat, grease, etc. The old grease in there may have hardened.

Re: STEERING

I had similar problem. after hurricane charlie I didn't take boat out for a long time and the kingpin on starboard engine seized. It is a major pain in butt to fix. Hopefully you can work it free per roscoe's advice. If not then you have to pull engine. If you have to pull engine then it's a lot of bad news and very little good. The only good news is that swivel bracket is same as chrysler and they are dirt cheap on ebay ... about $30. If you need a kingpin then look for 1-1/8" solid aluminum rod (I got mine for $8 from speedymetals on ebay).
