My steering is so loose that I can easily move the outdrive by hand and it will spin my steering wheel. Is this normal? If not, why would it be this loose? Never delt with steering before but I would think it should have some tension on it.

Re: steering??

Birdy, That may be OK. Your steering cable is certainly OK.:$ You will have to try it at speed. My speedboat (16' Avenger, 150 Merc) does that, but if I adjust the trim tab, it won't pull too much, and is easy to steer.

Re: steering??

When I move my motor, the wheel spins. It is a Teleflex Rotary cable system. Not hard to do.

More importantly, how much play is in the wheel when you turn it? Much more than an inch or so at the edge of the wheel and you may have excessive wear in the system.

What type of steering equipment is on there?
