Ok; I have a 18? Starcraft SS, outboard. W/a (1992 100hp Merc) starting to get everything I need to put the SS back together. The steering was/is rack&pinion. Is rack &pinion better than rotary or vice versa? Which one is best?????
thanks

Re: Steering

Tough question as both in good condition are excellent set ups.

Re: Steering

Max, I asked a salesman at a marine store the exact same question. He said the rotary benefits are a little less feedback and the less room required in the console. I have the rack and was thinking of going to rotary for the space savings.

Re: Steering

I agree look at the Rollflex as well as ehe TelFlex. I found the RollFlex much easier to install and BOTH leave lots more room behind the dash. Both units are good

Re: Steering

I installed a brand new Teleflex rack system in my Jupiter. I was kinda dissappointed in how sloppy it was. I put a Uflex rotary in my SS and am pleased with it.

thanks all; I am gonna go with the rotary unit. mechanically, the rack&pinion is never going to be as tight. With the rotary I will have control in regard to how much feedback I want in the steering. Thanks guys; you have come through again.
