i have a shetland 570 and a merc mariner 90hp. i am new owner. STEERING doesnt seem to turn engine much, from right lock to left lock. i run out of STEERING wheel and RAM travel. i have only tried out of water. havent had a chance to try in water yet. what would be the desired or needed angle from transom for a full lock on STEERING. thanks john boots. (i,m NOT talking about TILT and TRIM like some people taught.)

Re: steering

Hi John, and welcome to iboats!
Maybe it's just me, but I'm not really understanding the question. When you turn the wheel, the engine should not come out of the water. Are you talking about your tilt and trim? When you say 'full lock on steering', you have completely lost me. :) Looks like you're from England, and since my wife is British, I know first hand that there can be a language barrier between 'British English' and 'American English'. And since this is a US based site, you'll have to not use words like bonnet, boot, bin, fly-over, jumper, etc. :D (just kidding)

Re: steering

About 60 degrees lock to lock pulls my 90 Evinrude up John.
Mine is stopped by the amount of travel in the steering rod.
what would be the desired or needed angle from transom for a full lock on steering.
So that would also be about 60 degrees between the transom & the motor at full lock.
