What are the steps for checking the lower end (before removing & tearing down) for gearbox damage.
Here is the situation;
While traveling at ? speed, the motor accelerated for a brief moment almost as if the hub spun? From that point on it runs/vibrates/shudders as if the prop is damaged but under inspection I don?t see any damage. I have not pulled the prop yet to inspect hub, I can however turn over the motor by spinning the prop by hand.
While on muffs it shifts through neutral, forward and reverse. There is what appears to be excessive gear noise. As if may be the gears are not fully synchronizing? not sure how this works.
Over the winter I replaced the water pump, I was careful not to move the shift rod while I had it apart, Now I am wondering if this problem might be related to the clutch dogs? Is there a way to check for this without tearing it down?
