Just got a 2007 Bayliner 175BR and the guy had told me it had a stereo only to check it out and not have it (it was his other boat that had the stereo). Now I need to get a stereo and speakers installed. I saw some marine stereo packages on Crutchfield and at Gander Mtn that I'll probably go with, but wondering what others have done with speaker and head unit placement on their bowriders. Pictures definitely welcome too.
Thanks!

The factory location is just above the glove compartment for the stereo - never seen a bayliner that didn't have one there. Stock location for the speakers is usually on the sides behind the front seats.

Random picture from the web, but you can see the speakers and head unit

Thanks, just wondering if anyone put the speakers in other locations, or did anything special for a more customized feel/better sound, etc

In my 195 I've got a 2nd set of 6.5" speakers in boxes installed on the shelfs under the dash.

Cool, good idea. Did you mount them up against the vertical part of the floorboard?

They sit on the shelves that are under the dash and are screwed in from the bottom. Not sure if your boat has the same sort of arrangement.

Re: Stereo install location ideas for Bayliner 175BR?

I have the similar boat, 2005 model, also without a stereo and have a few questions before I embark on installing a stereo.
What did you end up doing and can you share any tips or ideas you learned after installing one? Also, the power and fuse panel are under the steering wheel on my boat, so means running a wire all the way around the stern and back up the port side to behind the glove box area. Is this what you did as well or is there a better way? Lastly, what wire gauge did you use?

Thank you!

I have A pretty wicked stereo in my 185. I will post some pics tomorrow. I spent about 2500 dollars and am not finished yet.

Re: Stereo install location ideas for Bayliner 175BR?

I have just recently upgraded the stereo in my 2004 175. It already had a dual marine head unit installed as well as two speakers next to the rear seats. I replaced those speakers with Polk audio 6.5" db651 and purchased another set to install in the bow between the seat back and the handle. It turned out great but I also had to purchase an amp to run the 4 speakers as my head unit was cutting out after turning it up loud for a few minutes. I purchased a Kenwood 4/3/2 channel amp and now I have no worries with the head unit cutting out. Next on my list is to purchase a subwoofer to bring the low end around but I too am struggling with where to put the sub. Some have mentioned cutting a hole on the foot boards under the driver or passenger dash. I'm just not sure how this would work without the subeoofer having a workable box. Hope I have helped. Also any advice on the placement of a sub would be appreciated.

Ya beat me too it on the front speakers (although I don't have pics......showoff... LOL!) but my brother has, I think an '04, 175 and has the rear and front speakers in the same location as yours... it's a good setup as no matter where your sitting you can hear the actual music and not just the baseline like you would if you just had rear speakers and was sitting up front.

Re: Stereo install location ideas for Bayliner 175BR?

i am a custom 12v audio installer....so firstly, to the kenwood (i wouldnt lol) amp install...seem to be a great place for that amp if it doesnt mind being liquid cooled. in a bow rider i would run the wires using a fish tape around the front probally following the nav light wiring and back. also with bowriders the port n starboard foot wells make great sub enclosures if there is storage beneath the bow seat. not to beat up your choise in products, but using anything made by "dual" is a bad idea, you could have made an equal amount of improvement, as your kenwood amp, if you changed to an alpine or clarion deck, and spent the money onna sub amp. the cutting out could be frm insufficiant guage wire feeding your deck, and/or the use of a very weak dual deck amplification. but if anyone here wants audio infos feel free in dropping me a line...include lotsa pics if u need componant location ideas.

Re: Stereo install location ideas for Bayliner 175BR?

The open looks of the Kenwood amp placement is not as it seems. That is actually under the passenger seat which has complete coverage all the way around. I went with the Kenwood because it was the only one I saw in my price range that had its own fans to cool the amp since it wouldn't be in open air. I had thought about changing the CD player because I knew it was low quality and eventually probably will but with the money I have to spend, I figured an amp would cover my bases better. I also just replaced all the wiring in the boat so i knew it was the dual cd player causing the problem. Now I am definitely not a pro at installing stereos, just a diy'er that doesn't like to pay someone else for something I could do so I know that what I installed may not be perfect but I am confident that I will perform well especially for as little money as I had to put into it.

Maxximus - how did you end up getting power to your stereo? Running all the way around from fuse panel or did you find a better trick? Thanks.
