G'day again from Down Under.

Just a few questions with stereo wiring.

Where do the red (ignition), black (ground) and yellow (battery) wires go from the CD Player ?

I wan't to put in a fuse, where would it go?

And an On and Off switch ?

I only have 2 speakers, should I connect them to the front speaker wires or the rear speaker wires?

Whats the best way to seal the wires that are not in use ?

Thanks again.

Red is on when you turn key on.
Ground to any good ground you can find.
Yellow to the positive side of the battery.
Fuse inline on yellow wire.
On-off switch inline between yellow wire and radio.
2 speakers, hook to front speaker wires.
Double the non use wires back and put some heat shrink on them.

Do I have to use the red wire Ignition or can I heat shrink that one aswell?

And the black wire, where can I ground it to? Fibreglass boat.

Thanks

If you do not intend to hook ignition wire to the key, then hook it to the yellow wire or the radio won't come on.
The yellow wire is hooked to the battery because of memory of the radio will work or you would be setting it everytime you turned it on.
Run the ground to the negative side of the battery.

Re: Stereo Install Question's

Why do you want to install a separate ON/OFF switch. There is an ON/OFF switch on the radio!!!!!!!!!! Does this boat have a fuse panel? That's where you get 12V and very likely ground. In a boat, you don't want the radio switched by the ignition switch. You don't want to have the ignition turned on to listen to the radio do you?

Re: Stereo Install Question's

G'day.

On/Off switch: I thought it would drain the battery without one. If I dont need one then sweet. Yep Fuse panel 6 fuses, 6 functions. Bilge, cabin light, anchor light, running lights, fishfinder and U.H.F. I was gonna run more length to the battery, but if I dont need to, sweet again.

No, I don't want to hook the radio up to the ignition, thats why I wanted to cut the red wire. Yeah, I wan't to listen to the radio without the engine running.

The main ground running off the panel for negative and where should I hook up the positive? 6 choices I guess ?

Can I use the same fuse that's in the panel to run the radio aswell?

Thanks.

Re: Stereo Install Question's

ON/OFF switch: If you turn the radio off with the switch on the radio the only thing running is the internal clock and station memory. That's no different than if the radio was installed in your car and it doesn't run that battery down. It draws so little current the battery would run the memory for months.
+12V can be picked off any of the six places but leave the in-line fuse. Make sure you connect on the HOT side of whatever switch you select. If you connect to the other side of the switch, the switch will need to be on to run the radio and you will lose station memory every time you turn that switch off.
Ground goes to ground -- wherever you can get it but the ground terminal on any of the gauges, or at the fuse panel ground bus is the closest points.

You will not cut ANY wires. Red is +12V and it goes to the fuse panel. Connect the yellow wire to the same place as that's the station memory. Black is ground -- again it goes to wherever ground is. There is probably a power antenna wire but unless you happen to have a power antenna on the boat, that wire will not be used.
