Hey guys,

Thanks in advance for your help. I have a 2001 sea ray 180 that I have been meaning to replace the stock stereo. Bare with me since I really have never done this before. I did manage to replace my bilge blower though. Any way, I purchased a single din unit (dual AMB600W head unit) to replace the old clarion unit.

So the old unit was attached to the fiberglass with a plastic mounting setup that has four bolts with nuts to tighten and a brace that attaches the back of the old unit to the fiberglass via a screw. The issue that I have is that the plastic brace was created for the old unit so that the head unit which goes through the cut out is separate from the dials. The dials sit below the head unit and is attached to the unit by a harness. I took pictures so you can see below. The hole in the fiberglass is bigger then the new head unit. I need some sort of installation kit that I can cut out because as you can see the bolting pattern is way large.

Anyone have any ideas or specific installation kit that I can use? The new head unit slides into a metal sleeve that clicks in place.

It looks like the mounting plate can be removed from the old head unit (2 screws on each side). Start there, and see if you can make use of it.

I removed the mounting plate from the old unit. Unfortunately the hole is smaller then the head unit. The new head does not seem to have mounting holes on the sides. It is also covered by some black plastic. I am unsure if I should remove the plastic.

I cant really tell by the pics if that cover will work on the new stereo.
Take the metal sleeve that came with the new radio. Slide it into the old housing on the boat. Once the sleeve is pushed into the housing, on the back there should be tabs. Bend the tabs up or out, securing metal sleeve to housing.

I may be alot easier to go to the top of the page under marine electronics, marine stereo accessories and just purchase a new faceplate. Just make sure you measure the length and width to cover up the entire hole.

Also, make sure you re-attach the strap that was holding the back of the radio upon the previous radio

Page 2 of your owners manual should be helpful.
