I replaced my factory stereo with a new Dual marine stereo. Problem is I don't have full power to the head. Speakers don't work, scan on radio doesn't work. The stereo powers on but not at full strength. I followed all the directions. Connect all the wires to proper colors. Please help. Got family coming in for 4th.

Re: Stereo installation

disconnect everything but power, check voltage with a multimeter should be around 12v, if it is still doing it and you have 12v then take it back for a new one.
If it works with nothing else hooked up than hook up one by one untill problem comes back.
when you find what is causing it then you can troubleshoot that.
although it is probably a wiring problem.

Re: Stereo installation

Why did you replace the factory unit? Was it working properly? Here's why I ask. If it was working properly and you just wanted to upgrade I'd suspect the new head unit. I've had issues with Dual products in the past. If you've troubleshot and confirmed there are no wiring issues I wouldn't hesitate to try antoher head unit. Just be sure you eliminate the other possible issues first.

it might be your headunit. If your using the same wiring from your old unit then it should work. Dual is a lower end unit and could be the issue. i purchased one from Walmart for an old truck and quickly returned it after installing. Maybe return it and spend a few bucks on something better.

Re: Stereo installation

The dual that was in my pontoon when I bought it had similar issues. After troubleshooting I found it was the poor fit of the detachable face. It was intermittently making contact. I had a display but almost no volume and non control.

Ditched it and bought a $27 Pyle. It has a volume knob a tuning knob and 2 buttons to move through files on an SD Card. No presets but really simple to use. And if it only lasts a season or two I'm out a whole $27.
