Stereo Problem

I installed a JVC stereo in my pontoon boat and it works fine until I turn on the outboard the the sound goes nuts, I powered it by the available panel swithch the ran a separate wire from the neg battery post but the problem is still there. Any ideas?

As Scott stated you are getting "noise" in the voltage supply from the charging system. Even some older cars need the noise suppressor.

Like the above commenters stated, you are having noise from the charging system from the engine. The fact that any charging system has to output voltages that are higher then the battery they are connect to, means those charging spikes are riding on the power lines to your stereo system. Go to a reputable sound shop and ask them for a good filter unit to install at the stereo voltage input lines and your problems SHOULD g away. I say should because there is an outside chance that the noise is coming from the ignition and your radio is receiving the RFI. If the noise is coming from the CD/USB/ or any other type music but the radio being played, then it is the power lines. But if it is from the radio, they you have other issues...
