I have a 17 ft Glasspar and would like to add a stereo system. I know I need to get marine speakers, but am wondering what brands would be the best to go with? I don't want it loud enough to add an amp, just something to listen to at the cove. I am gonna put the cd player in the cubby hole so maybe a couple 6x9's and a couple 3's. Know auto stereos pretty well but not sure about marine. Any suggestions I would definitely appreciate!!! Trying to get ready for Memorial Day!

I hear ya. I started with these on my Kenwood reciever.

Soon that wasn't enough so I added these

I have to say, those Kappas paired with the Bose sound really nice. But without the amp it all means nothing......:D

Depending on where you plan on putting the speakers you might be abel to use regular automotive type, the marine speaks are expensive and it has been my experience that when they get real wet don't hold up ANY better than any other. Might be abel to get a much higher quality 6x9 poly cone auto type than a middle of the road "marine" speaker just be mindful of where you install them and you would be fine. Or you could use the small 6x9 boxes with auto speaks and put them away when in bad weather. I have 61/2" in my seat pedestals and 6x9 in the small angle boxes all auto speakers with no amp(200w deck) and it does pretty good considering how little it really cost me. been installed three years now and still sounds like it did day one. Just my opinion however....

Re: Stereo Suggestions

we've got a jensen radio with a CD and a jport for my ipod - great combo unit with removable face. we mounted in a watertight gimbal under the dash. Bose marine speakers - 2 pair mounted at the console (under the dash - leg height) - one at the port and one starboard. the sound is awesome (we killed the idea of putting the second pair at the stern - would be cool, but overkill for our 20-footer).

my dad owned a stereo store and that was the family business growing up... so i know what you mean about great sound - and you really get spoiled with a nice setup. i think our combo is great for the sensitive ear and it does project nicely. the CD does not skip.. i was suprised.
